Genetic inheritance, weight gain-loss, and childbirth cause 3 types of deformations on the abdominal area. These are:
Excess fat around the belly, covered by skin that has not lost its elasticity: The treatment is LIPOSUCTION.
Excess fat around the belly, covered by skin that has not lost its elasticity and loose abdominal muscles. The treatment is MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY. Both for women and men, if the patient complains about the excess abdominal fat or loose muscles but the skin has not lost its elasticity, then excess skin and fat tissues can be removed through a much small incision in compare to classical abdominoplasty operations. Stretch marks can be remedied. The abdominal muscles can be repaired. As the location of belly button will not be changed, there will be no visible trace. The rehabilitation period is much faster in compare to classical abdominoplasty. The procedure can be combined with liposuction to attain more satisfactory results.
Excess fat around the belly, covered by skin that has lost its elasticity and loose abdominal muscles. The treatment is CLASSICAL ABDOMINOPLASTY (Tummy Tuck).
It is expected that during pregnancy, fat tissues accumulate and abdominal muscles loosen. Gained weight can be lost after the childbirth. However, loss of elasticity of the muscles and stretch marks can only be remedied with abdominal aesthetic surgery operations.
Recently, several procedures like intragastric balloon and adjustable silicon gastric bands, give good results for the treatment of obesity. Additionally, if our genetics allow, we can loose weight with diet and exercise. However, those patients face with excess sagged skin after the weight loss. These deformities can be corrected with tummy tuck operations.
PRIOR TO THE OPERATION
Intaking blood diluting medication and substances like aspirin, omega3 (fish oil), Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, should be ceased, starting from 10 days prior to the operation until 1 week after the procedure is completed. Smoking also should be avoided. Alcohol consumption must be stopped 2 days prior to the operation as alcohol may interact with anesthetics.
Before the operation, some blood tests and abdominal ultrasonography may be requested.
The planning that is suitable for the chosen operation technique and the drawings are done prior to the operation.
The procedure is performed in operating theatre under general anesthesia and takes around 2 hours. The incision is done under the bikini line. Its length may differ according to the amount of skin to be removed. The trace of the incision mcan be hidden under the underwear. All excess skin, and underlying fat tissues are removed. If abdominal muscles are loose, they are repaired. If the amount of skin to be removed is extreme, then it may be required to relocate the belly button.
AFTER THE OPERATION
After the operation, you will be asked to wear a special corset. You should use the corset for 3 weeks. It generally is a comfortable rehabilitation period as during the operation, inner tissues are sedated. After the operation, you may have some pain that can be controlled with painkillers. Patient is discharged next or following day. As the stitches are melting type, there is no need to remove them. First dressing is generally changed on the 5th day. There may be slight swelling and bruises at the beginning but they will disappear very quickly. The patient may go back to regular routine after 1 week. Any sportive activity except mild walking should be avoided for 2 months.
Like any other surgical operation, abdominoplasty procedures also bare some risks. To minimize these risks, the doctor and the patient should work together. Minimizing or totally quitting smoking and regularly taking the medication are some examples of the duties of patient.
Bleeding: It is very rare. To prevent this risk, surgical drains are placed during the operation. If no bleeding is observed, the drains are removed within a couple of days after the operation.
Infection: As preventive antibiotics are administered at the beginning of the operation, infection risk is minimal.
Delay of the recovery of the wound: This is very rare. It is closely correlated with diabetes and smoking habits of the patient. It requires frequent dressing until the Condition is healed. If there is growth of incision wound, this can be remedied with a small procedure.
Genetic inheritance, age, weight gain-loss, pregnancy are the main causes of deformation and sagging of the abdominal area. Both for women and men, if the patient complains about the excess abdominal fat or loose muscles but the kin has not lost its elasticity, then excess skin and fat tissues can be removed through a much small incision in compare to classical abdominoplasty operations. Stretch marks can be remedied. The abdominal muscles can be repaired. As the location of belly button will not be changed, there will be no visible trace. The rehabilitation period is much faster in compare to classical abdominoplasty. The procedure can be combined with liposuction to attain more satisfactory results.
Ideal buttock shape is formed with the harmonious proportions of hips, abdomen and legs. Ideal feminine form demands not too thin and not too thick thighs, followed by a slightly raised and bulged buttocks, which join to a thin arched waist. This form can easily be achieved with procedures such as liposuction, lipo-filling and or buttock lifting. Liposuction is used to thin down the waist, back and thighs. This will make the buttocks to appear rounder and narrower. If desired, during the same operation, the fat tissues removed by liposuction may be injected into buttocks to attain a more voluminous and bulging form. The patient is discharged the same day and may go back to regular routine after 5 days. A special corset should be used for a couple of weeks.
Silicon prostheses may also be used for buttock lift and enlargement. This procedure will leave a trace of the incision around 7 to 8 centimeters long. The trace is in between the butt cheeks, thus not visible. The rehabilitation period is slightly longer than liposuction.
If the buttocks are sagged, then a lifting operation is required. It is done under general anesthesia. The patient is discharged same day or next day, according to the intensity of sagging. The stitches are removed between 10th and 15th day. The patient may go back to the regular routine after 2 weeks. Heavy sportive activity should be avoided for 2 months. Mild exercises like walking can be done. The only disadvantage of the procedure is the visible trace of the incision, like in the tummy tuck operations. These traces may fade in time or may be covered with tattooing if preferred.
Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
A sagged or oversized upper arm causes unhappiness. If the sagging is not extreme, this condition can be remedied by liposuction. If the sagging is intense, then a brachioplasty (upper arm lift) procedure is the answer. The procedure is performed in operating theatre under general anesthesia.
If the operation plan is only liposuction, the one or two small perforations will be sufficient. The duration of the operation is around 30 to 40 minutes.
If there will also be brachioplasty, then the procedure may take 1 to 2 hours. There will be a trace of incision on the arm and under the armpit. The trace on the arm will be permanent.
Female genital aesthetic surgery is becoming more and more widespread.
Any atypical appearance of the outer genitalia or the enlargement of vagina, that may be a result of childbirth or structural problems, have negative psychological impacts on women.
Labiaplasty, which is a aesthetic surgery procedure altering the labia majora and the labia minora, is one of the most favorite cosmetic surgery operations. Labia minora (inner lips) cover the entry of the vagina and the clitoris and do not grow hair. Normally, they should be located in between the labia majora (outer lips) or slightly extend out of them. If inner lips sag out of outer lips and big in size, this may cause problems such as fungal infections and bad odor. It may also affect the quality of sexual life, as the patient may avoid having sexual relationship and have lack of self-confidence due to her physical outlook, or may have physically painful sexual intercourses.
The procedure is performed in operating theatre, under local or general anesthesia, and takes around 30 to 40 minutes. The patient should “sitz bath” (basically sitting in a bowl full of liquid) using a special antiseptic solution for 15 days. For 10 days, lavatory hygiene of genitalia also should be made with a similar solution. There may be slight vaginal discharge for 7 to 10 days, therefore using hygienic pads or liners would be helpful. As the stitches are melting type, there is no need to remove them. The patient should refrain from sexual intercourse for 4 weeks.
Vaginoplasty is the second most common procedure of female genital aesthetic surgery. Vagina may become slack or loose from childbirth or due to other structural reasons. Normally, the vagina should be 2 fingers’ length wide. Enlargement generally is the result of several natural childbirth, delivering an oversized baby, or as a result of bad stitching of episiotomy incisions made to ease the childbirth. The condition may cause the woman and her partner not to enjoy sexual relationship, thus may cause severe psychological problems.
The procedure is performed in operating theatre, under local or general anesthesia, and takes around 45 to 50 minutes. The patient should refrain from sexual intercourse for 6 weeks.
Our hands are always one of the most overt of our organs that give away our age. Aging of our hands appear as thinning of the skin, maculation, loss of fullness, and wrinkling. Laser procedures attain very satisfactory results for the maculation on hands. Lost volume can be replaced with fat injections or fillers that contain hyaluronic acid. When both techniques are applied together, the results are very pleasing. As the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, there is no pain. The patient may go back to regular routine right away. After laser operations, the patient should avoid direct sun exposure and should use sunscreen.
PRP (or Platelet-Rich Plasma)
The movement of the mimic muscles forms deep lines on the face such as the horizontal lines on the forehead, the vertical lines in between the eyebrows, and the wrinkles around the eyes. This causes the face look tired, worn, and angry. As the muscle movements are the main cause of these lines and wrinkles, Botox is the answer to address the problem due to its muscle relaxant properties. Botox is the most common non-surgical cosmetic surgery procedure. When used in appropriate amounts, it gives a younger and fresher look without losing the meaning in the eyes. Meanwhile, the droopiness of the eyebrows is also remedied. Procedure takes around 5 minutes. The impact become visible after the 3rd day and takes its final appearance between 7th and 10th days. It is effective for 4 to 6 months. The patient may go back to regular routine right away.
Botox is also effective treating migraine by reducing the frequency and duration of the attacks.
Another application area of Botox is the treatment of sweating. By applying on the armpits, hands, and foot soles, the excessive sweating of these areas, which may be a serious social discomfort, may be eliminated for around 6 months.
We all wish to spend our old ages healthier and happier as aging is a natural and unavoidable phenomenon of our lives.
The age shows its influence as wrinkling, deflation and loss of volume on the face. With age, especially the lines extending from the sides of the nose towards the lips and from the sides of the lips towards the chin become very evident. The underlying reason behind this is the lessening of supporting tissues and hyaluronic acid that has the capability of retaining water. Plastic surgeons use fillers containing hyaluronic acid to reverse the effects of aging.
These fillers are also used for forming the lips. Lips are very prominent to complete the beauty of the face. They may be reformed using surgical and non-surgical techniques if they are too thin structurally. The procedure also helps eliminating the thin wrinkles on the upper lip.
The procedure takes 10 to 20 minutes. The patient may go back to regular routine right away. Direct sun exposure and excess physical activity should be avoided for the first 24 hours. It is effective for around 1 year.
PRP (or Platelet-Rich Plasma)
PRP (or Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a method that involves that patinet’s blood is taken, the cells in the blood that secrete growth factors are segregated, intensified and then injected into the areas required.
These cells, known as thrombocytes or platelets and that play an important role on repairing damaged tissues, reduce the maculation caused by sunlight or age and thin lines, especially on the face. Skin looks much more fresh and brighter. They reduce the dark circles under eye.
PRP also may be used for helping hair loss problems. It strengthens weak, falling hair. It is a safe method as the material is derived form patient’s own blood. For the best results, the procedure should be repeated 3 to 4 times with three-week intervals. The impact is visible from the very first session. For most effective and durable results, the treatment may be repeated after 8 to 10 months.
Fibroblasts make our skin fresh and vibrant by producing collagen and elastin proteins. There will be a reduction on fibroblast cells with age. This will cause, the skin, especially on our face, to look wrinkled, deflated and fade.
The purpose of fibrocell technique is to extract a small amount of fibroblast cells, propagate the cells to obtain in millions by culturing, and place them where needed. As planted fibroblasts will produce collagen and elastic proteins, those areas will be much brighter, fuller and younger.
This procedure is also very effective of treating the traces of dimpled acne.
The procedure is done under local anesthesia. The tissue sample is extracted from behind the ear, which is the area that is least subject to the harmful impacts of sun exposure. The cells are propagated under laboratory conditions. The placement is done in 3 sessions. Each session takes around 10 to 15 minutes. As fibrocells are prepared using the patient’s own tissue, there is no risk of allergy. Rarely it may cause rush. The procedure will be effective up to 4 to 5 years.
